Award-Winning School Mental Health Support for London's Independent Schools

AWARD WINNER · GHP MENTAL HEALTH AWARDS 2026

When a child is struggling, they deserve expert support. Not a waiting list.

Regal Private Therapy Practice provides specialist psychological support for children and young people — working directly with London's independent and private schools, and with the families of pupils who need more than their school can offer alone.

Our team of HCPC-registered, doctoral-level clinical psychologists has been recognised with the GHP Mental Health Award for Excellence in School-Based Interventions and Wellbeing Support 2026 — the only practice in London to hold this distinction.

FOR SCHOOLS

A specialist partner for your pastoral and wellbeing team

We understand the demands placed on school wellbeing staff. In-house counsellors and pastoral teams do vital work, but there are times when a pupil needs the depth of specialist clinical psychology that only a dedicated practice can provide.

Regal works in partnership with independent and private schools across London, providing a trusted referral pathway for pupils whose needs go beyond the school's in-house capacity, and, where appropriate, delivering in-school sessions that keep the child in a familiar environment.

What we offer schools

  • A clear, confidential referral pathway for pupils with complex mental health needs

  • In-school sessions delivered by doctoral-level clinical psychologists — we come to you

  • Written reports and outcome summaries to support your SENCO and safeguarding records

  • Consultation for pastoral staff and DSLs on supporting specific pupils

  • Assessment and formulation for ADHD, autism, anxiety, EBSA, and behavioural presentations

  • Therapeutic support plans aligned with EHCPs and SEN provision

  • Staff training and CPD on children's mental health and emotionally based school avoidance

Designed for independent and private schools

We have built our service specifically with the independent school context in mind. We understand the particular pressures your pupils face: academic competition, high parental expectation, performance anxiety, the social intensity of boarding and day school life, and we bring that understanding to every piece of clinical work we deliver.

Our clinicians are experienced in working alongside school pastoral teams, providing communication that is timely, clear, and appropriate for a school safeguarding context. We operate within robust clinical governance frameworks and carry full professional indemnity insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age range do you work with?

We work with children and young people from age 5 to 18. Our clinical team is experienced with both primary-age children and adolescents, and we adapt our approach to the developmental stage and individual needs of each young person.

Do you offer in-school sessions?

Yes. Where it is clinically appropriate and logistically feasible, our clinicians can deliver sessions at your school. This is particularly beneficial for younger children or for pupils whose anxiety makes travelling to a clinic difficult. Please mention this when you contact us and we will discuss the options.

How long is the waiting time?

We aim to offer an initial appointment within two weeks of referral. We do not maintain long waiting lists. If our capacity is temporarily reduced, we will tell you immediately and, where possible, suggest appropriate alternative provision.

What is the difference between a clinical psychologist and a counsellor?

A clinical psychologist holds a doctoral-level professional qualification (typically a DClinPsy) and is registered with the HCPC. They are trained to assess, formulate, and treat complex psychological difficulties across the full range of presentations. Counsellors provide valuable emotional support but typically work with less complex presentations and do not hold the same level of clinical training. All Regal clinicians are HCPC-registered doctoral Clinical Psychologists.

Will you communicate with my child's school?

Only with your explicit written consent, and your child's consent where appropriate. We take confidentiality extremely seriously. Where communication with school is agreed and beneficial, we provide written reports and attend review meetings as required.

Do you work with children who have an EHCP?

Yes. We are experienced in working alongside EHCP provision and can contribute to education, health and care plan reviews. Our written reports follow the standards required by local authorities and educational settings.

What therapies do you use?

Our clinicians are trained in a range of evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and trauma-informed approaches. The approach used is always tailored to the individual child following a thorough assessment.
